Kolya Mazanovich, aged 10, is spending time in Somerset having arrived from Belarus with the Chernobyl Child Charity.

Residing with the Farrant family in Yeovil, Yeovil Town FC supporter Dan Farrant brought Kolya’s story to the attention of Mark Porter, Managing Director at Jones Building Group who, as main sponsor, contacted Yeovil Town to see what they could do.

Keen to give Kolya a day to remember, the Belarusian was made mascot for the clash against Port Vale, being kitted out with a replica kit complete with ‘Kolya 10’ on the reverse.

Meeting YTFC Manager Darren Way and his first-team players as well as  leading the team out, Kolya took in his first experience of a live football match.

Having never seen the sea before arriving in the UK and never having owned a computer or games console, Kolya was delighted to contact his parents on Saturday night to share his experience with the Glovers.

With Belarus the most affected country by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the charity supports children growing up in the country.

We hope to see Kolya again at Huish Park in the future.
